Privacy
New
Media can be very beneficial to everybody, but it comes with a cost. New Media
has helped our society progress but at the same time has shrunk our privacy.
Programs and platforms like Facebook can track our movements with GPS,
everything said on Facebook is saved and forever engraved in servers, and of
course Facebook selling our data to companies like Cambridge Analytica raise
concerns over what privacy means with the evolution of technology. Although
there are certain ways you can increase your privacy online, overall you are at
the mercy of the creator. For example, with Facebook when you use their services, they can collect your
information and attach tracking cookies all without you ever knowing. Lack of
privacy obviously sounds like a horrible thing but in some ways, it can be
beneficial. Our government is now doing their best to track potential school
shooters using search histories and behavior. Of course, to track potential
terrorism you must keep track of everyone. The growing lack of privacy on the
web, seems like it will continue to get worse and worse.
