My Project Topic

I plan on writing about how social media companies track, steal, and use a lot of your data without your permission or explicit knowledge. Many people realize that they give up some of their privacy rights when signing up, but are not aware just how much of their data they are giving up and how far companies tend to overextend. This also isn't limited to only social media websites themselves, but can go as far as taking your GPS data and browser history so that the media sites can then give you targeted ads based on your history. I feel like this will be a good topic to shake people blind trust in these large corporations. After all when the service is free you are the product, not the consumer.

  1. Mark, this topic is red hot-button issue and needs further exploration and debate. The behemoth, Facebook comes to mind. And while singling FB would be unfair, in the bigger scheme of things, what a power player in the SM age! If it's free in the SM-age, the product is you sounds about right!
