Blog Social networking

Social networking has become a large part of many companies today and serves as a link between corporation and consumer. This link can be incredibly beneficial to both parties. On the consumer side, consumers are given a direct public voice that is difficult for companies to ignore. The recent use of twitter by dissatisfied consumers has lead to fast action by companies to avoid bad press. The public soap box provided to consumers puts a bit more liability for the companies that use social networking sites. On the company side Frank Langfitt’s article “Social Networking Technology Boosts Job Recruiting”, does a good job of demonstrating how companies can use networking sites to reach and communicate effectively with more potential employees.

While there are benefits to social networking there is certainly a "dark side" or rather an environment that allows more negative behaviors to happen. The article “Is MySpace Good for Society? A Freakonomics Quorum” by Stephen J. Dubner brings up the point of how social networking allows for bulling other users, acts as a distraction from work, and in general can be used to spread misinformation very easily. Overall there are many benefits that come from social networking sites, but we must stay weary of the negative impacts they can have as well.
