Blog: Social networking sites
My impressions for each of the sites are:
Twitter- Has a simple design and is very user friendly. While you cannot post more than 280
characters in one tweet, you can get ideas across quickly. No ads can be seen.. Front page has tweets from
followers and recommends accounts for you to follow. The trending
hashtag system on the side to keep people up to date with current news is convenient.
Facebook-
Not as user friendly but offers a lot more possibilities to a user that
wants to complicate things. Front page consists of posts by your
friends and people you follow ONLY, which limits what you see greatly. It has a lot of ads on the sides and
sometimes on your timeline. Trending topics on the right side of the
page like Twitter, but it includes a description with it unlike Twitter. The instant chat bar is an important and nice feature.
YouTube- Front page consists of trending videos and recommended videos
specifically for you based on your history. Front page is always taken
up by a large advertisement. There are no "friends" features, but
you can subscribe to people who you want to be updated about. Has a lot
of video advertisements before a video plays. There is a chat feature in
the comments section where anything can be discussed.
LinkedIn-
Out of the four, only website to offer a "premium" subscription that
has some upgrades over standard account (not counting YouTube Red). Layout is all about networking
and professionalism. There is messaging that can be done. There is also a
lot of information and news posted that is related to your workplace
and education, to keep you up to date with the business oriented news.
Overall I'd say that Twitter and YouTube are more oriented toward entertainment while the other two sites are geared toward staying connected with "close" contacts.
